Identify The Target Audience

I thought about the target audience when brainstorming this idea in the very beginning, the type of users I'd expect to use a travel inspiration/planning app include;

Typical age range would be 16-60, especially Generation Z (7-22 years old) and Millennials (23-38 years old). Anyone able to use a website/app and is interested in travel. Focusing on 16 and above as that's the legal age to fly without an adult.

I'd like to get more involved in some travel forums to reach the type of people that will hopefully be interested in my product. Perhaps even reach out to some social media influencers that I know frequently travel, in the hope they see my message and take the time to reply. But before I start contacting people I need to have questions to ask them.

The (almost) complete guide to email marketing for #nocode startups and makers - Jens Lennartsson

In a section of this book it talks about the different ways you can segment your market;

Vertical: A business or title such as dentists, yoga instructors or entrepreneurs.

Horizontal: A need they have or a problem they need solved - "faster website", "being better at planning" or "getting the tax papers in order”.

Psychographic: A value they have, something they believe - “The earth is flat”, “eating animals is wrong” or “no-code is the best thing since sliced bread”.

Demographic: A persona of how they are described to others - "Stay-at-home moms", "45+ CEOs" or "Couples in Denver”.

Platform: A specific platform they use - WordPress, Adalo, Airtable.

Based of these groups I'd say my target audience is "Organised travel enthusiasts (demographic) who want to find the hidden gems of their next adventure (horizontal)"

User Research Methods

"You are not your audience, in order to understand how to design great things, research is necessary to uncover key motivations and insights."
